| Console Port Management
When a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is
not available or not required remote access is usually achieved by
connecting to the serial or console management port of the Server or a
network device such as a router or power distribution unit.
While many KVM switches can also connect
to serial or console ports it may be more cost effective to use a Console
Port or Terminal Server.
These devices usually provide both in
band remote access (using the local network connections) and out of band
remote access using a modem, VPN or other connection. Some devices even
have built in wireless connectivity. The security, resilience, port
density (1-48 ), flexibility and price of each product does differ greatly
and there are many different features available which our technical
consultants can advise you on.
These manufacturers provide Console Port
or Terminal Servers if you need advice on the best solution for your
